Christiana Vardakou and the Philosophy of ‘Slow Design’Francesca Palange
Christiana Vardakou is a recent graduate from UAL: Chelsea College of Art and Design. She specialised in digital printing, however her work now focuses on natural dyeing and printing. She believes in the philosophy of ‘Slow Design’ and tries to express the beauty of process in creating. She recently travelled around South East Asia, taking traditional textile classes and learning more about traditional techniques, every week she writes a blog post about what she’s learnt while travelling. She has now moved back home, in Athens, Greece and is starting her own brand. She will be focusing on homeware, making objects such as: table and bed runners, carpets, blankets, small bags and pillows. They will all be naturally dyed, some will be hand-woven, some will be hand embroidered and some will be hand printed. She will also be running workshops in Greece, about natural dyeing, hand-weaving and embroidery trying to share her experiences and skills with other like-minded people.
