The Inconvenient TruthHolly By Heart

Convenience is a word I keep stumbling upon. Take away coffee cups are convenient. Convenience foods, ready made meals, bottles of water, crisp packets… all conveniently wrapped up so you can consume them quickly. You know what’s not convenient – single use plastic.
Al Gore had a good reason to name his film on climate change “the inconvenient truth” because none of this take away lifestyle is convenient for anyone who wants a future not drowning in trash. Just glance around as you take a walk and you will see that the bulk of the litter is these items, crisp packets, drink cans, take away food containers, are rarely items designed to be consumed at home. You wouldn’t dream of leaving rubbish in your home so why leave it outside? Walking to a bin too inconvenient?
What can we do? You can’t expect these items to be banned, you can choose not to buy them. Could there be another way?
